TJ Aluminum Radiator
The stock radiator in TJ's are made with an aluminum cooling core coupled with two plastic tanks at each end, top and bottom. The radiator does a decent job of cooling the Jeep, but the pressed fitting and seals commonly begin to wear out and ultimately fail. When I was doing my AW4 conversion, I decided to upgrade to an aluminum radiator. Mine was a 1.5" 1-row Griffin. This radiator did a great job of cooling the Jeep in Florida heat and humidity. Pics found below.
These are the "crimps" that are pressed down onto the tank and the aluminum core of the radiator. You can see the wear and coolant marks where leaking has begun.
Out with the old in with the new.
Installed, waiting for fitting adjustments.
The fitment from the fan clutch to the radiator was perfect, no issues at all. The only adjustment I had to make was where the fan shroud meets the upper radiator hose. Some slight trimming with a dremel fixed this issue.
